East London – Sewage back up
Pumps which are responsible for pumping out sewage from the septic tank under the building failed to cause sewage to back up into the flat.
Our client has contacted us to carry out an emergency response which included sewage clean up, sanitation and installation of drying equipment to dry out the affected areas.
Sewage contains many bacterias and pathogens, this type of water poses a serious health threat to anyone who comes into contact with it, and it should only be handled by a professional.
During the inspection, our technicians found that the sewage is covering the whole of the tiled floor in the bathroom and most of the laminated flooring in the hallway, which at the time of our visit was already blown in many places.
Sewage also affected carpet in both bedrooms and various contents in hallway cupboards, which was sitting on top of the flooring.
There was a strong odour of sewage which could be smelled even in the communal corridors.
The floor in the lounge and kitchen has not been affected directly but suffered from cross-contamination.
Whilst on site our technicians have carried out the following works:
- Contaminated laminated flooring and underlay in the hallway and hallway cupboards have been removed and disposed of
- Saturated chipboard and insulation has been removed and disposed of
- Exposed concrete in the hallway has been mopped and treated with anti-microbial solution
- Carpets and underlay have been removed from both bedrooms
- Parts of contaminated chipboard floor has been removed from both bedrooms
- All affected contents which were deemed as beyond economical restoration (B.E.R) have been listed, photographed and disposed of. Remaining contents have been cleaned and moved into the bathroom.
- All contaminated surfaces have been cleaned followed by two treatments with anti-microbial solution
- Initial drying equipment has been installed to stabilise environmental conditions in the property
